I got so excited when I got the offer to write a new ending theme song for the ICONIC anime “Chibi Maruko-chan.”
I was 9, the same age as Maruko, when I became a fan, and was also influenced by Momoko Sakura’s introspective and funny essay collections. I love how she casts light on daily life’s little moments and feelings of awkwardness that often go by without being talked about but that we all know of. The way she brought out the inner world of a sensitive child and her friends, and the imperfections of adults was so original and so relatable. I believe that’s why her work drew the hearts of so many people, including mine.
I made the song “Pappa Paradise” wishing for kids, and for all of us who were kids not so long ago, to be able to cherish who they are and cherish the time we have together now before it becomes a future memory.
It’ll be aired for the first time on their special Spring program on March 29th. Can’t wait!
